The Brass Ring
Raúl de Nieves’ public sculpture takes us on a journey through ancient mythology inspired by the Roman origins of Bvlgari.
Raúl de Nieves made a name for himself treating modest materials with meticulous attention and “turning the mundane into the fantastical,” according to the Whitney Biennial. His expansive faux stained-glass window, beaded sculptures, and embellished shoes were among the 2017 exhibition’s most acclaimed works. The 35-year-old Mexican artist is reaching for the brass ring during Miami Art Week with his satellite exhibition, a public sculpture entitled When I Look Into Your Eyes I See The Sun (2018), presented by Bvlgari in collaboration with Art Production Fund.
Both the artist and jeweler see and share beauty through color with powerful and daring energy. de Nieves’ striking work sits in the hotel’s luminous Cathedral entrance, taking viewers on a journey through ancient mythology inspired by the Roman origins of Bvlgari while representing the cycle of life, metamorphosis, and legends in the form of a carousel.
